Mes carnets de voyage: #1 Le Costa Rica

My travel diaries: #1 Costa Rica

As some of you might have seen a few weeks ago on my Insta stories, I spent the holiday in Costa Rica for a family trip. This country was on our bucket list for so long, we were really excited to finally be able to visit this place, that met our expectations and beyond!

Join me for a travelog full of colors and savors!...

Our trip begins in San José, Costa Rica’s capital, where we spent the first night of our stay. The next morning was the real starting point of our adventure and we left to the Caribean Cost, Cahuita and Puerto Viejo.

What a luxurious, rich, green place we met! A true paradise, filled with amazing plants and wild animals: monkeys, iguanas, racoons, sloths…The overall vibe is really “cool”, mostly thanks to the Caribbean influence: Ratafari and hippie mood all the way! We can feel this influence on the food also! We spent an amazing 3-day in this “ out of the time” atmosphere.

Our trip led us next to the center of the country in Sara Piqui, a nature reserve. The vegetation is less tropical than on the Cost, with a lot more of agricultural lands. This is where the Arenal, the main volcano,  is located. We were able to see it mostly, despite the heavy mist that covered it that day. Our best memory of these days is our time spent swimming in the source waters around the volcano. Magical!

Finally, after a few-hours long road-trip, we ended up at the final destination of our trip: The highly anticipated Pacific Cost. We stayed in a nice fishermans’s village far from the touristic mass, in the Nicoya Region.

In Samara, this is all about the wild life, with a nice black sand beach, where you just want to relax, have a drink and read a good book. The ocean is perfect for both swimming and surfing!

Surounded by palm treas and not-too-fierce animals, we absolutely loved these last days spent at the local pace. On the 31st of December, we celebrated the passage to the new year waching fireworks on the beach where the whole village was gathered: A very emotional moment four our family.

You won’t be surprised to learn that the trip influenced and inspired me A LOT. You will find may references to this beautiful place in the colors and drawings of the upcoming Liligraffiti collection. I feel very lucky and grateful for travels like this. Here’s to many more!
